GTA 6 Extended Look: What Rockstar's 26-Minute Gameplay Video Showed
Rockstar's Extended Look premiered on Netflix on August 27 and on YouTube six hours later. Character switching, cover combat, missions and activities in 26:48 of in-game PS5 footage - and what it left open.
Updated October 20, 2026: Rewritten after the August 27 premiere: the preview sections have been replaced with what the 26:48 Extended Look actually showed (character switching, cover combat, missions, activities), and the 'confirmed vs expected' table is now 'what it settled / what it left open'.

Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look premiered on Netflix on Thursday, August 27, 2026 at 3:00 p.m. Eastern, and went up on the Rockstar Games YouTube channel and the Grand Theft Auto VI website at 9:00 p.m. Eastern the same day. Rockstar's upload runs 26 minutes 48 seconds. It was the first sustained look at how the game actually plays, after two trailers and roughly a hundred screenshots that showed Leonida without showing a session of play.

| Title | Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look |
| Announced | August 6, 2026 |
| Netflix premiere | Thursday, August 27, 3:00 p.m. ET / 12:00 p.m. PT / 8:00 p.m. BST |

| Runtime | 26:48 on Rockstar's YouTube upload; about 26 minutes on Netflix, per PC Gamer and TechRadar |

It was never a Netflix exclusive - it was a Netflix head start. The full video has been free on Rockstar's YouTube channel and rockstargames.com/VI since 9:00 p.m. ET on August 27.
What the footage showed
Rockstar did not publish a written feature list alongside the video, so what follows is what was shown on screen, drawn from the video and from the breakdowns by PC Gamer, TechRadar and GamesRadar. Where only one outlet reports a detail, we say so.
Two protagonists, one button
Character switching is shown repeatedly, including a swap from Lucia to Jason in the middle of a base jump. The switch is shown as a single button press. Some jobs are shown as meant for only one of the two characters, so the pairing is not purely cosmetic. Rockstar has still not described the switching system in writing; what is known comes from the footage.

Combat and the police
- Cover-based gunfights.
- Kill-cams.
- A slow-motion aiming mode with a meter, highlighting weak points in red and yellow. TechRadar calls it a "focus meter"; Rockstar's own name for it has not been confirmed.
- A wanted level that, according to TechRadar's breakdown of the footage, runs to six stars. Treat that as reported rather than confirmed.

Missions
Several missions are shown in part, along with quick-time events that offer a choice of action and the use of disguises:
- A "pick-up" for Boobie Ike that turns into a police raid.
- Gas-station robberies.
- A getaway job escorting Raul.
- Bodyguarding Andrés de León (Megamundo) at a party.
Named characters who appear include Boobie Ike, Brian Heder, Raul Bautista, Andrés de León, Nesto and Rayman.
Activities
Scuba diving, fishing, jet skis, kayaking, airboats and fanboats, dirt bikes, base jumping, track and street racing, the gym, basketball, clubs and a strip club all appear.

The capture disclosure
Before the premiere, the most useful thing to check was whether Rockstar would repeat the disclosure it attached to Trailer 2. It did. That means what you are watching is footage of the game running on a PlayStation 5, not a pre-rendered target.
Captured entirely from in-game footage on PlayStation 5.
It is still a marketing asset, assembled by the people selling the game and cut to show the best of it. Genuine footage of the best moments is not the same as the average minute of play, and that difference is what reviews are for.
The leaks around it
In late August, gameplay leaks attributed to "Cyberleek" circulated online. Responding on Instagram on August 26, the day before the premiere, Rockstar called them "heartbreaking for our team" and said it was focused on "getting the game finished (nearly there!)." This site does not use leaked material as a source for game details.
Fake 'leaked gameplay' uploads surge around every Rockstar reveal. If a clip is not on Rockstar's own channels or its Netflix premiere, treat it as unverified however convincing the thumbnail looks.
What came after
The Extended Look was not the last thing Rockstar showed. The radio lineup and podcasts followed on October 8, and a 90-second Launch Trailer on October 15. Practical launch details have been tightening too: pre-loading from November 12 has been official since June 24. File size and unlock times are still unannounced.
No. Netflix had it six hours early on August 27; since 9:00 p.m. ET that evening the full video has been free on Rockstar's YouTube channel and rockstargames.com/VI.
Rockstar's YouTube upload runs 26:48. PC Gamer and TechRadar reported the Netflix listing at about 26 minutes.
Rockstar says it was "captured entirely from in-game footage on PlayStation 5." It is still an edited marketing video, cut to show the game at its best.
Yes. Switching between Lucia and Jason is shown repeatedly, on a single button, including mid-base-jump. Rockstar has not described the system in writing.
Rockstar called it an extended look rather than a trailer. The separate 90-second Launch Trailer followed on October 15.
No. Rockstar describes GTA VI as a single-player experience on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. A PC version has not been announced, and Bloomberg's October 14 report that online is expected in 2027 has not been confirmed by Rockstar.
