Cookie Policy
One cookie is needed to remember what you tell us here. Every other cookie on this page is optional, and nothing optional is set until you say so.
- Strictly necessary: one first-party cookie storing your cookie choice. It cannot be switched off, and it tracks nothing.
- Advertising cookies are listed here but are not currently set, because advertising is not live on this site yet.
- Refusing optional cookies costs you nothing. Every page stays readable and every feature keeps working.
- Your choice lasts six months. You can change it from the Cookie settings link in the footer of every page.
01What a cookie is
A cookie is a small text file a site asks your browser to keep and hand back on your next request. It is how a site recognises that two page views came from the same browser. This policy uses "cookie" as shorthand for cookies and for the similar technologies that do the same job - local storage, pixels, and the advertising identifiers Google uses.
It applies to lfdossier.site only. Read it alongside the Privacy Policy, which explains what happens to the data these cookies generate.
02The categories we use
| Category | Can you refuse it? | What it is for |
|---|---|---|
| Strictly necessary | No - the site needs it | Remembers your cookie choice and keeps the site working. No tracking, no sharing, and no way to switch it off. |
| Analytics | Yes, and refusal is the default | Aggregate traffic measurement - which pages get read, which ones break. Never used to build an advertising profile. |
| Advertising | Yes, and refusal is the default | Lets Google and its ad technology providers measure, cap and personalise the ads on this site. Declining does not remove the ads; it makes them non-personalised. |
03Full cookie inventory
Retention periods are the maximum lifetime set by whoever issues the cookie. Third-party lifetimes are controlled by that third party and can change without us being told; where that happens, the authoritative figure is the one in their own policy.
| Cookie | Set by | Category | Purpose | Expires |
|---|---|---|---|---|
lf_consent | lfdossier.site (first party) | Strictly necessary | Stores your cookie choice, the version of the notice you saw and the date you chose, so the banner is not shown again and so consent can be evidenced. | 6 months |
Not currently set
These are listed for completeness. They will only appear once the corresponding feature is switched on, and only then if you have allowed the category.
| Cookie | Set by | Category | Purpose | Expires |
|---|---|---|---|---|
_ga, _ga_* | Google Analytics | Analytics | Distinguishes one browser from another so visits and sessions can be counted. | 2 years |
__gads, __gpi | lfdossier.site (set by Google AdSense) | Advertising | Lets Google AdSense cap how often an ad is shown and measure ad performance on this site. | 13 months |
__eoi | lfdossier.site (set by Google AdSense) | Advertising | Security and fraud prevention for the ads shown on this site. | 6 months |
IDE | doubleclick.net (Google) | Advertising | Serves ads based on prior visits to this and other sites, and measures ad interactions - personalisation only where consent allows. | 13 months |
test_cookie | doubleclick.net (Google) | Advertising | Checks whether your browser accepts cookies at all. | 15 minutes |
NID | google.com (Google) | Advertising | Carries your Google ad-settings preferences, including any opt-out set there. | 6 months |
04Who sets them
A first-party cookie is set by this site. A third-party cookie is set by somebody else whose code runs on the page. The third parties that can set cookies here are:
| Party | Role | Their policy |
|---|---|---|
| Google Ireland Ltd. and Google LLC | Ad serving - Google AdSense | Read it |
| Google certified ad technology providers | Third-party vendors and ad networks serving ads through AdSense | Read it |
| The site's hosting and CDN provider | Hosting and content delivery | Read it |
Google maintains the current list of certified ad technology providers that can serve ads on this site through AdSense. Where consent is required, each one is named before it receives anything. See Google's ad technology providers list and How Google uses data from partner sites.
05How your choice is captured and stored
On your first visit, a notice appears before any optional cookie is written. Accepting and refusing are presented with equal prominence, and closing the notice without choosing is not treated as consent.
What we record when you choose:
- Which categories you allowed.
- The version of this notice you were shown.
- The date and time of your choice.
That record lives in the lf_consent cookie and in your browser's local storage, on your device. It is not sent to us as an identifier and is not shared with anyone. It expires after six months, and we ask again. If we add a new category or a new kind of recipient, we bump the notice version, which also asks you again.
06Changing or withdrawing your choice
Withdrawing consent is as easy as giving it. Open here or from the footer of any page, change the toggles, and save. The change takes effect immediately for anything set afterwards.
Cookies already on your device are not deleted by withdrawing consent - they stop being used, and they expire on the schedule in the table above. To remove them now, clear cookies in your browser.
07Controlling cookies in your browser
Your browser can block or delete cookies independently of anything on this page, and blocking third-party cookies there overrides whatever you told us:
Blocking the strictly necessary cookie means the consent notice reappears on every page load, because the record of your answer is the thing you just blocked.
08Industry opt-outs
These are run by third parties, not by us, and they cover the vendors that participate in them:
- Google Ads Settings - Turn personalised advertising off across every Google product.
- How Google uses data from partner sites - What Google receives from sites that use its advertising services.
- YourAdChoices (DAA) - Industry opt-out for participating vendors, United States.
- Your Online Choices (EDAA) - Industry opt-out for participating vendors, Europe.
- NAI opt-out - Network Advertising Initiative member opt-out.
09Changes to this policy
The inventory above is generated from the site's own configuration, so it changes when the site does. The date at the top of the page is the last time the wording changed.
